I lived in Fall River as a little girl, and we would eat at Mee Sums all the time. Every time since then when we would go back and visit our family in Fall River, Mee Sums was usually 1 of our first stops as soon as we would arrive.

My mom and dad were high school sweet hearts and would go there after school for chow mein sandwiches.

As a mom myself, my children love chow mein and we must order it on a regular basis, even though we donot live in Fall River.

The BEST chinese food ever!!!! Just thinking about it makes me want some!!!!

Guess I will order some today....

I am so glad you went and enjoyed the food there- very nice family, and terrific chow!. I visited again recently and once again was not disappointed. My waitress was a longtime friend of Rosaria's and she stopped to chat with us. Looking forward to your review about your visit and what you chose from the menu./Shelley

Just reviewed this place. THANK YOU for the suggestion. We have to agree - it was one of the best breakfasts we've had in the city. Hooray!

I'd like to thank you for adding my blog to your blogroll!
Unlike you, who moved to Fall River, I moved away from there, though not far (Boston).
I still have some ties to the area, but most of my nostalgia revolves around the food I had when I was growing up.
I look forward to reading more of your blog.
Feel free to contact me.
Thanks again.

I'm with you on the maple syrup. But I have yet to find real maple syrup at a restaurant around here. My kids and I even have a joke about it, and have been known to travel with our own syrup.

It could be that it's too expensive; not only is maple syrup itself more pricey, it's a lot runnier than the fake stuff. I've noticed that many people used to the fake stuff tend to WAY overpour real maple syrup. Could be that the restaurants can't justify both the expense and the waste.

Just a hypothesis.

As for the butter, I'm not sure I want to share a stick of butter with multiple previous patrons. But a breakfast place needs to be generous with the pats of butter.

Good review!

Sorry to tell you, but Plourde's is closed. :(

Mom and I loved that place! We used to walk - back in our skinny days - all the way from Kennedy Park to Plourde just to get some yummy baked goods. I'm so sad that it's gone.

R.I.P. Plourde's AND China Royal. Two great places that we miss on a regular basis. *sigh*

Oh, bad news Susan, China Royal closed its doors years ago- it was a sad time. I understand that MeeSums is also closed, I drove by today and it looked closed. Remember Mak You on Pleasant Street? Same thing. People just retire and the young ones don't have their hearts in it.

I will see about Plourdes Bakery next weekend. I am still in ecstacy about LaSalle's bakery in North Providence-best birthday cakes in the state of R.I. - but I guess that is too far from Fall River to count! I do love Tony's bakery, across from Sagres on Columbia Street and will get a review of that up soon.
